Bear Creek preserve is a new open space preserve only 6 miles from Los Gatos. It is a local treasure as you can experience redwoods and the beautiful Santa Cruz mountains really close to the urban area. It is the former site of the Jesuit’s Alma College. This was my first hike there, there were 12 of use from my meetup group.

This was my first real hike since my surgery, I’m finally confident going downhill, and it was a delightful one to pick, but also a challenging 8 miles with a lot of elevation gain.

Some fall color in the woods:

Now that I know this beautiful place is there I’ll be back often. It’s only 30 minutes from my house with all the nice cafes and restaurants in Los Gatos awaiting nearby.
Looks so pretty. Love that shot of your guide and that giant tree too.

It’s nice that some of the old growth redwoods are still there. Unfortunately there had been logging in the early 1900s

They are so pretty, shame that some were cut down.
