Our little town has a nice little parade each year. It's so popular people show up more than a week in advance and stake out their claim to a seating area. But I'm fortunate enough to live less than a mile away so I can just walk to it and watch while walking. It was … Continue reading Happy 4th!

On Staying Positive While Rehabbing Multiple Times
When I started this blog I wanted to recount my story of coming back from three major surgeries, and still staying active and healthy while aging. What I did not have in mind was recounting the continuing saga of rehabbing from new issues. I’m in my second rehab this year. After bouncing back from my … Continue reading On Staying Positive While Rehabbing Multiple Times
Local Dirt
This is a report of a ride about a week and a half before my shoulder surgery. I went for a shorter ride today on my hybrid with more off-road thrown in. I like to ride in the dirt all though I have limited mountain bike skills and am on stern Doctors orders not to … Continue reading Local Dirt
Rotator Cuff Slight Glitch
I was surprised to hear from Dr Wong, my surgeon, that he wanted to see me ASAP and not wait for my next followup. He said it appears one of my anchors had shifted and possibly come loose. As a bit of background, I got a double-row repair. This is more secure and is a … Continue reading Rotator Cuff Slight Glitch
A Tour of San Jose’s “Urban Reserve” and 3 County Parks
This is one of my Stayventures that I did leading up to my surgery, on June 6. The City of San Jose is large, with a population of a bit over a million, but it is huge geographically, with a land area of 180 square miles. Fortunately that has not all been built on. Today … Continue reading A Tour of San Jose’s “Urban Reserve” and 3 County Parks
Rotator Cuff Surgery- Update With Surgeon
I had my first followup with my surgeon yesterday. He said I did not have a torn biceps tendon, but he’d needed to do some cleanup of the biceps attachment around the shoulder. The rotator cuff was torn worse then he’d expected from my MRI, and that was what made my surgery more involved. But … Continue reading Rotator Cuff Surgery- Update With Surgeon
Surgery Update 1
Overall my surgery went well last Friday. But my surgeon found extensive damage that wasn't visible on the MRI. The rotator cuff tear was worse than he thought plus I had also torn my biceps tendon. So I have 12 screws instead of the 4 I was expecting. I'll see him Thursday to get more … Continue reading Surgery Update 1
Surgery Today, Posts May Be Sparse and Short For a Couple of Weeks
I go in for my rotator cuff surgery today at 2:00 pm. After that I'll be in a sling for 4-6 weeks. I don't type too well left-handed and don't know how soon I'll be allowed to use the right hand for typing (I'll find out at follow-up with Doc next Thursday). I do have … Continue reading Surgery Today, Posts May Be Sparse and Short For a Couple of Weeks
Stayventuring
I like to read about the adventures of intrepid endurance athletes. Long-distance hiking, multi-day ultrarunning, paddling, and cycling are among their activities. Some adventures are in pretty remote and exotic places. For the most part the authors seem to be enjoying themselves, although they definitely go through some rough patches, so I find it inspirational. … Continue reading Stayventuring
